Tardive Dyskinesia Lawsuits

People who use Reglan may be at risk to tardive dyskinesia. Recently published analyses suggest that Reglan, also known as metoclopramide, is the most common cause of drug-induced movement disorders. More than two million Americans use these products for the treatment of a number of gastrointestinal disorders depending on what form the physician prescribes the medication. The FDA has become aware of continued spontaneous reports of tardive dyskinesia in patients who used metoclopramide, the majority of whom had taken the drug for more than three months.

Forms of Reglan Medication

Reglan Injections
When injected, Reglan helps prevent chemotherapy-related and postoperative-related nausea and vomiting. The drug may also facilitate small bowel intubation.

Reglan Pills and Syrup
When taken by mouth in tablet or syrup form, Reglan treats a stomach problem known as diabetic gastroparesis. Symptoms of the disorder include heartburn, nausea, a feeling of fullness after meals, vomiting and anorexia. Reglan is also prescribed to patients suffering from gastroesophageal reflux (the backward flow of gastric acid into the esophagus).

Severe Reglan Side Effects

Reglan has been linked to Tardive Dyskinesia. Tardive dyskinesia is a central nervous system disorder characterized by involuntary movements of the limbs as well as twitching of the face and tongue. Some people have described it as having Parkinson's-like symptoms.

Tardive Dyskinesia Symptoms

  • Twitching
